Local History Group

We are a group, currently thirty four, who meet four or more times a year to discuss history projects, or simply to enjoy visiting famous places in Devon, restoring a lime kiln, delving into the history of our Augustinian Priory, publishing a book of interviews with our oldest inhabitants and another about the manor houses of this area.

We have visited castles, long houses, record libraries and so on. We keep a growing library of historical documents and early maps of this area and meet in a local (insulated) barn warmed by a wood burner and a glass of wine. Non members are especially welcomed. We encourage people to come to our meetings at no cost to them. However, if they decide to join us there is a fee of £10 pa.

Each year we welcome several visiting speakers.
